Children of God – Intrepid Theatre

Intrepid theatre is bringing us Urban Ink’s presentation of Children of God. Billed as their biggest show they have ever presented, Intrepid is looking for community support to cover the cost of this production (to support intrepid, see the link above).
Described as a must see for all Canadians, this show runs only two nights and focuses on an Oji-Cree family whose children were taken away to a residential school. Presented in a musical format, this show promises to be moving and challenging, and incredibly necessary.

This one man show is touring around and when I first read the teaser, I knew I had to go!
A multidisciplinary one-man show that combines personal storytelling, image projection, and three huge knitted panels that look like stained glass windows, to explore the connection amongst the Abrahamic faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
At a time where we need more connection, better understanding, and more goodwill and empathy towards the other humans on the planet, to do so in an innovative way, (and one that includes fibre arts!), it sounds like this is exactly what’s needed right now.

I cannot say enough good things about the innovative and moving productions by Broken Rhythms. Always engaging, always unexpected in the best of ways, and always a new discovery of a form that they are creating and developing in front of our eyes.
This show was created from an 8-hour hold call, and I cannot imagine what a funny and imaginative creation Broken Rhythms has in store!
I double booked myself for this one so I will be missing it, but please, grab ten friends and go to this one for me. Even those who “don’t like dance” will find something to love about a Broken Rhythms show!
Susan Aglukark: This Child 30th Anniversary Cross Canada Tour

When The Child roared onto the Canadian music scene 30 years ago, it cemented Aglukark as a powerhouse musician and a national treasure in her own right.
Joined by throat singers as well as her band, I am excited to see one of Canada’s most well loved musicians take the stage!

100 years ago, phantom of the opera hit the screen and, arguably, movies were changed forever.
Accompanied by art rock band The Invincible Czars, this will be part live music part movie. What an amazing and innovative way to celebrate 100 years of this film!

This isn’t a local production, I admit that tickets are pretty pricey, and well, magic isn’t for everyone.
BUT, *I* do love magic shows so suffice to say, I’m very excited about this one!
Dancing Queen: The Music of ABBA

It comes to no one’s surprise that of course I love ABBA, ABBA music is fun and charming and brightens any day! Mix the boppingist bops of all time with the Victoria symphony, this promises to be a fun time!
I cannot wait to see who dresses up, and I cannot wait to see which hits they’ll play!

After their spectacular performance of Stars, I am delighted to take in another performance of this all-female choral group. Their innovative use of staging made for an engaging performance, and Wings sounds like an exciting theme to build a programme around!
Coming Home: An improvised family reunion

I don’t know much about the bakery improv, but I know they’ve sold out a bunch of their shows. Family reunions seem like an intriguing concept for an improv show, with lots of potential drama and humour, so I’m excited to take it in!

By putting arts and crafts out in nature, I think this has a potential to be a joyful and relaxing time. I’m excited to try my hand at a design with some friends!

Opened on February 14th of this year, the coda is our newest arts venue, and even a cursory glance at their schedule shows they are committed to finding a space for artists, and it looks diverse and fun!
And I note that Confabulation will be hosting an event there – I’m excited to follow through with my promise to finally make it to a confabulation show!
Looking at what I have on my list, I definitely need to make it to more visual art shows!
Help me out, what art galleries and openings are you going to? What should I keep my eyes open for?
