A little note from me: I’m feeling BUSY, man. So while I hope I can make everything below, this list will probably end up being aspirational now and in the future. I love our arts and culture scene but some days you just have to stay home with your loved ones, sit on the sofa and catch a breath.

Universal Horrors Oct 10th – 11th, 2025
The Broken Rhythms team is back with the best loved (or maybe loathed?) monsters of movie history, re imagining the scaries that go bump in the night in their signature dance style.
I’ve never seen this one before so it’s all new to me, but even if you have, I bet it’s worth a revisit!

VIVAS Open House Oct 11th, 2025
Vivas open houses are like a blast of art of all types all at once. It’s loud, it’s raucous, it’s fun, it’s engaging, and it’s such an amazing way to get to know the art and the artists in our town. Plan on giving yourself a few hours to really enjoy. There’s SO much to see and do!

High Moon – A Werewolf Western Oct 15th – 31st 2025
A play out in the woods with werewolves and a western theme? I can’t imagine a more fun way to get into the Halloween vibes than with this exciting and fun show. Plus bonus, you can test your hearing from town by hearing me scream (yeah, certified ‘fraidy cat here).
With local actors who always give amazing performances, I’m excited to get my heart racing with this one! (At least, whatever I’ll see of it while hiding behind my friends)

Genki Bear Oct 17th – 19th, 2025
This is part of Inconnu’s 2nd stage project, which is intended to broaden our “cultural perspective as we collaborate with a local playwright in bringing their stories to life on our stage”. These shows tend to run for a short time, so if you see them, get your tickets and get to the theatre quickly.
I’m interested in catching puppetry whenever I can, and Yumiko’s story sounds beautiful and compelling. I’m looking forward to catching this one!

Vacant Lot Oct 18th, 2025
This contemporary dance piece piqued my interest, not only for the movement, but also for the sweet and poignant story.

Chocolate: A Tasting Event Oct 19th, 2025
Chocolate. Tasting. And, bonus, it’s a fundraiser, so you’re helping the independent cinema scene in Victoria!
This will be my third time around and both times were so much fun – lots of special treats to take home, and most booths have a sample or two!
Pro tip: If you think of it, eat before you go and stop at the water stations often.

Turn of the Screw Oct 22nd -28th, 2025
Eagle eye readers will note that Turn of the Screw (and Birdy below) were in my Only One Ticket post, and it’s almost time!
Turn of the Screw promises to be moody, dark, and a story to remember! I’m looking forward to seeing how the opera brings this thrilling show to life!

A Number Nov 7th -16th 2025
The gist of this script is a father raised a cloned copy of his son who he gave up for adoption, after 35 years, he discovers that there are multiples of the cloned son. Both timely and timeless, this script will ask audiences to consider what they think they know to be true.
Dandelion Theatre is a small company that does shows that they love and so far has done works only every few years, so you know this script is something special to make it out for!

Hung Dance – Birdy Nov 14th – 15th, 2025
Dance Victoria is bringing Hung Dance to town with their work Birdy. This incredible work promises to blend so many different artistic elements, and looks visually stunning.

Jeremy Dutcher at the Winspear Nov 19th, 2025
Jeremy Dutcher is coming to the Winspear! In that wonderfully intimate space, there are no bad seats, and at time of writing, there are still tickets left for you to take in this incredible night of music.
Dutcher is a classically trained tenor, and member of the Tobique First Nation. He’s won the Polaris prize, and a JUNO, and (an accolade somehow NOT listed in his wikipedia page) was my favourite show I saw in 2023. Dutcher’s music is spectacular – he’s an incredible performer with so much to give his audience. Do yourself a favour and get out to Sidney for this one!

Appalachian Spring Nov 23rd, 2025
Joining the Victoria Symphony, Ensemble Laude will be performing as part of this beautiful program, being performed for only the second time ever.
Hamnet Nov 27th, 2025
Based on the popular book of the same name (I just got my copy!), this film looks to be a dramatic and moving rendition. I adore Jessie Buckley in everything I’ve seen her in, so I’m hoping this continues the streak.
Yeah, this isn’t a local event, but if I can, I’ll catch it at Capitol 6, who I love giving a shout out to for as long as they continue to exist.

Confabulation Oct 16th, Nov 20th, Dec 18th, 2025
Perpetually on my to-see list, this storytelling night looks so engaging and honest, I definitely want to check it out soon!
Winter Holiday Events:
If you’re someone who likes to give experiences for holiday gifts, might I recommend the following festive events?

I’ve seen the Wonderheads Christmas Carol twice, and both experiences were utter magic. This local group is so incredibly creative and joyful in their productions, and it never gets old to be in the audience for one of their shows. It’s always a safe bet for everyone, even if they think they’re not “into theatre”.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas
You probably know more songs from this classic Christmas show than you think you do. And with VOS’ fun take on musical theatre, this might just be the perfect family show for everyone you know!
The wildly popular symphony movie performances where they live score a movie are often sell outs, so if you’re interested in taking in this new holiday classic, get your tickets quickly!
One more symphony pick to round out the holidays – and this seems like a perfectly sweet way to celebrate the festive songs we all love so dearly.
